14th week

Hello Mama,

How have you been? Pregymatic here again, with an exciting update for you. Let’s dive right in!

Your precious little one is now about the size of a fresh kiwi, measuring somewhere between 8.5 cm to 9.5 cm. Growing longer by the day, your baby is getting ready to snuggle up beside you with all the love and joy. This week, their facial muscles are working hard, making their facial features more refined, including the formation of those adorable eyebrows and eyelashes. You’ll be delighted to know that they can even make facial expressions like frowning or squinting! They are just so active and lively inside your womb and you’ll feel those gentle movements very soon.

Can you believe that your little champ is already capable of forming a tiny fist? Yes, those limbs are getting super activated and they are getting ready to give you those precious pushes in a few more weeks. It’s truly a magical journey and I wish you a fantastic week ahead, filled with wonderful moments and experiences.

Your baby’s development is moving ahead rapidly, with hair follicles forming on their head and eyebrows starting to grow. Most of their organs have already formed by the 14th week and they are gradually starting to function, even though they are not fully mature yet. And guess what? Depending on their position, it might be possible to determine your baby’s gender through ultrasound. Such an exciting moment!

Now, Mama, I want to offer you some advice. Embrace this unique journey of motherhood and avoid stressing about stereotypical beliefs or gender-related questions. The more you stay at peace with yourself and your pregnancy, the smoother your experience will be.

On another note, your baby is also beginning to sense smell. So, why not make your meals more appetizing and enjoyable for both of you? As your baby grows, their bones will harden and their intestines will take their designated place in their tiny abdomen.

Now, let’s talk about the symptoms you might experience during the 14th week:

  1.  Morning sickness  and nausea might be easing up by now, leaving you feeling lighter and more cheerful. A relief, right?
  2. Tender gum, known as pregnancy gingivitis, can be caused by hormonal changes. While mild discomfort is common, any increased pain should be reported to your doctor immediately.
  3. Round ligament pain is a result of your expanding tummy, as your pelvic ligaments adjust to accommodate the growing baby. Paying attention to your posture is crucial, as improper positioning may cause pain. Consider treating yourself to soothing hot showers for relief.
  4. Increased appetite is a natural part of this stage. Embrace it and plan healthy, nutritious meals to nourish yourself and your baby. Treat yourself to those foods you’ve been longing for, but listen to your body’s cues.
  5. Swollen legs may start to appear, but remember that this is a common occurrence during pregnancy. It will fade away with time. Consider a hot oil massage to alleviate inflammation.
  6. Nasal congestion can be triggered by certain foods, so opt for natural remedies. If the congestion becomes bothersome, don’t hesitate to consult your doctor.
  7. Itchy skin can be soothed with a gentle organic moisturiser, free from harmful chemicals. Take good care of yourself, Mamaand pamper your skin with love.

Now, let’s discuss the medical tests and screenings during this period to monitor your health and your baby’s:

Ultrasound

Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan

Blood tests

Genetic screening wherever it is indicated.

Urine test

Pap smear

These tests are designed to ensure the best care for you and your baby. So, Mama, consider and cooperate with these procedures, as they play a vital role in safeguarding your health and your little one’s well-being.

Throughout this journey, you might encounter new challenges and symptoms, but remember, you have Pregymatic by your side. Together, we’ll navigate through this beautiful phase of your life. Be prepared for those extra tummy punches and embrace every moment of this miraculous experience.

As a fellow Indian mother, I understand the joy and anticipation that comes with the beautiful journey of pregnancy. During this special time, it becomes even more crucial to take care of yourself and your little one growing within you. One way to do that is by nourishing yourself with the right foods and I want to share with you the incredible nutritional benefits of oats, nuts and dates.

Oats, our humble and versatile grain, are a true blessing for pregnant mothers like us. They are not only gluten-free but also packed with essential nutrients that our bodies need during this phase. Oats are an excellent source of dietary fibre, which helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and promotes a healthy digestive system. As we go through various hormonal changes during pregnancy, oats can be a soothing and comforting addition to our diet, easing any discomfort that might arise.

Next, let’s talk about nuts, especially almonds and pistachios. Oh, how they add a delightful crunch to our meals! These little wonders are rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, which are beneficial for our skin health and provide protection against oxidative stress. As we take care of ourselves and prepare to welcome our little bundle of joy, these nuts offer a generous dose of healthy fats that support our brain function and overall well-being.

And how can we forget the natural sweetness and goodness of dates? These luscious fruits have been cherished in our culture for centuries. During pregnancy, dates are like a little dose of love for our bodies. They are packed with dietary fibre, which helps prevent constipation and ensures a healthy digestive tract. More importantly, dates are loaded with antioxidants that boost our immune system and protect our precious baby from harm.

Dear fellow mother, let’s cherish this phase of pregnancy together and embrace the goodness of nature’s gifts. With each wholesome and delicious ladoo we enjoy, let’s remember that we are giving our baby a taste of our love, care and nourishment. May these little treats fill us with strength, joy and the boundless love that only a mother can feel.

So, here’s to Dates, Nuts and Oats Ladoos – a delightful and nutritious reminder of the incredible journey we are embarking on. As we prepare to hold our little ones in our arms, let us cherish these moments and take the utmost care of ourselves and our growing babies. But avoid dates in case of glucose intolerance.
